Northway carried out a detailed timber survey at a semi-detached property in Halifax, where active Anobium punctatum activity, commonly known as Common Furniture Beetle, was identified within the ground floor timbers. A remedial plan is now being prepared to treat the infestation and replace severely damaged structural timbers.

Project Overview
Northway attended a semi-detached residential property in Halifax to carry out a detailed timber survey.
The survey was completed by our surveyor, Lewis, following concerns around the condition of the property’s timber elements. The aim was to identify whether timber defects were present, assess the level of activity and establish the most appropriate remedial approach.
The Issue
During the survey, Lewis identified an active infestation of Anobium punctatum, commonly known as Common Furniture Beetle, within the ground floor timbers.
Where active wood-boring insect infestation affects structural timber, it is important to understand both the level of activity and the condition of the timber itself. In this case, some structural timbers were found to be severely damaged and will require replacement as part of the remedial works.
Survey Findings
The timber survey confirmed active Common Furniture Beetle activity within the ground floor of the property.

Report and Recommendations
Following the survey, Northway is moving forward with a remedial plan to address both the infestation and the damaged timber elements.
The planned works will include treatment of the active woodworm infestation and replacement of all severely damaged structural timbers. This approach is designed to deal with the active insect activity while restoring the condition and integrity of the affected timber structure.
Outcome
The survey provided the property owner with a clear diagnosis of the timber issue and a practical remedial plan for the next stage of works.
By identifying active Common Furniture Beetle and the extent of structural timber damage, Northway can now move forward with targeted treatment and timber replacement to help protect the property long-term.
