Project Overview
Northway attended a residential property in Rawdon, West Yorkshire, to investigate and address a penetrating damp issue affecting the property.
Penetrating damp is often linked to defects in the external building fabric, allowing moisture to enter through walls, roofs, junctions or exposed masonry details. In this case, defective roof coping stones were identified as the source of the moisture ingress.
The Issue
The property was experiencing penetrating damp caused by defective coping stones at roof level. When coping stones fail or allow water to track into the structure, moisture can pass into the masonry and affect internal or external finishes below.
The damp issue had affected the external wall plaster, which needed to be removed as part of the remedial process.
Works Carried Out
Northway began the remedial works by stripping the affected external wall plaster. This allows the underlying masonry to dry properly before any specialist plaster system is applied.
Works included:
- Investigation of the penetrating damp issue

- Planned return visit to apply a specialist plaster system
Outcome
The initial works have prepared the affected wall area for proper drying and future reinstatement.
Once the masonry has fully dried, Northway will return to apply a specialist plaster system suitable for the affected area. This staged approach ensures the underlying moisture issue is addressed before the wall finish is reinstated, helping reduce the risk of future damp-related deterioration.
