Rising Damp

Rising damp occurs when ground moisture travels upward through masonry by capillary action. It can leave a tell-tale tide mark, damage plaster and finishes, and cause decay in embedded timbers. At Northway Building Preservation we diagnose rising damp accurately and provide tailored solutions to control it effectively.

Our Approach

Not every sign of damp at low level is true rising damp, so our process begins with a careful survey to rule out alternative causes of the issue. Once confirmed, we design a specification suited to the building’s construction.

Solutions may include the installation of a chemical damp-proof course, physical systems, or targeted repairs to the building fabric. We then replace salt-contaminated plaster with specialist and suitable materials for the building. Where embedded timbers are at risk, we inspect and resolve as required to prevent decay.

By combining accurate diagnosis with proven methods, we ensure rising damp is controlled at its source, restoring the wall structure and finishes for the long term.
